3 Days of Neutralization Tactics Workshops

One of Daoqiquan’s strategic maxims is “NCCD” or “Neutralize, Control,
Counter, Disarm.”

This reminds students of the order in which tactics should be performed. If you attack (Counter) without ensuring your safety (Neutralize, Control), you run the risk of getting struck while striking the opponent.

In this workshop, Shigong Painter is going to cover Neutralization tactics common to Chinese martial arts, in general, and particular to the Li family arts, including Liu Taijiquan, Ziran Xingyiquan, Tibetan Snake Boxing, and Jiulong Baguazhang. The Li family strategy for defence eschews hard, force-on-force blocking.

Things You Never Knew About the Wedge!

The Wedge is the Master Key to defensive skills in Jiulong Baguazhang. Used correctly, it deflects and neutralizes nearly every incoming attack angle while penetrating to the attacker’s centre and unbalancing him. This can be done with such a light touch that the attacker is unaware he has been guided away from his target until it is too late.

You will learn: how to Wedge with the Five Circles, Reverse Wedge Tactics and Ba Stepping for Defence, and Arm Bars & Other Tactics.

Hawk Catches Sparrow is a common tactic that has you trying to catch a punch out of the air and often ends up with you chasing a fist that is no longer there! Jiulong Baguazhang tweaks this tactic with a corkscrewing wedge to meet an incoming attack and trap it, granting momentary control over the attacker. Instead of trying to catch the wind, you consistently acquire your attacker.

Learn to control the attacker’s centre while preventing him from striking with his arm. Expose the attacker’s centre in the midst of their attack by redirecting his strike in a smooth curve that unbalances him is called “Opening the Door.” “Closing the Door” crosses the attacker’s striking arm across their body preventing follow up attacks from him while leaving you able to counter freely.
